Soon after Independence, India embarked on an ambitious programme of industrialisation. Self-reliance in hi-tech special metals and alloys became essential for meaningful growth of Space, Atomic Energy, Aeronautical, Steel & Hydro-electric power and Defence sectors heralding the change.
